The services offered by Dyslexia Lincs are provided by Melanie Stephenson, a highly qualified specialist teacher/assessor with wide experience of working with dyslexic young people in both primary and secondary settings, and of assessing students for Disabled Students’ Allowance [DSA].

Trained as a junior/secondary teacher at the University of London, Melanie qualified with the Certificate in Education [QTS], followed by a BA [Hons] degree in Professional Studies [Education] from Bath Spa University.  Deciding to specialise in working with young people with dyslexia and related SpLDs, Melanie subsequently gained the OCR Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties [Dyslexia] at the West of England Psychology Services Centre, followed by the OCR Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties from The University of Northampton.

An associate member of the British Dyslexia Association [BDA], Melanie is certified by the BDA to teach and assess those with dyslexia [AMBDA].  She is a  full member of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties [Patoss] and holds an Assessment Practising Certificate [APC] authorising her to provide diagnostic assessments for Disabled Students’ Allowance [DSA].  Melanie also holds professional membership of The Dyslexia Guild [part of Dyslexia Action].

Melanie holds enhanced DBS [formerly CRB] clearance issued by the Government’s Disclosure and Barring Service. Her recent role as Deputy Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a large secondary school, together with continuing professional development, ensures that she is fully up to date with current practices and requirements, and is able to advise parents regarding all areas of support for pupils with dyslexia and related specific learning difficulties.
